What your wedding day looks like with me there

Most couples haven’t booked a wedding photographer before, so here’s how it usually goes: where I’ll be, what I’ll be looking for, and what happens once the day is over.

The day, in order

From getting ready to the dancefloor

Every wedding runs differently, and how much of it I photograph depends on your package. But this is roughly how a full day goes.

  1. A bride and her bridesmaids laughing together in matching robes
    Morning

    Getting ready

If your coverage starts in the morning, I’ll arrive while hair and make-up is still going on. It’s usually the calmest part of the day, and a good chance for you to get used to me being around before things get busy. I’ll photograph the details here too: the dress, the shoes, the rings, the things you’ve spent months choosing.

  2. A groom placing the ring on his bride’s finger
    The ceremony

    Saying it

During the ceremony I stay quietly out of the way. I’m watching the two of you, but I’m also watching the people watching you, because that’s often where the best reactions are.

  3. Guests throwing confetti over a couple outside a red-brick house
    Afterwards

    Confetti and drinks

This is when everyone relaxes. Hugs, congratulations, someone’s uncle telling a story he’s clearly told before. I’ll be moving between your guests, picking up the moments you’ll be too busy to see.

  4. Guests hugging the bride after the ceremony
    Family photos

    The group shots

Group photos matter, but they eat into your day quickly. I keep them to around 10 to 15 combinations and work through them as efficiently as I can. A list beforehand, and a guest who knows everyone and can round people up, makes a big difference.

  5. A couple smiling at each other in front of a yellow field
    Just the two of you

    Portraits

We’ll slip away for a little while. Not hours, and not a list of poses. I’ll find some good light, give you a bit of direction and let you enjoy a few minutes together.

  6. A couple embracing on the dancefloor surrounded by guests
    Into the evening

    Speeches and the dancefloor

Speeches are a gift for photographs: laughter, the odd tear, the reactions around the room. Full-day coverage usually stretches into the evening, so there’s time for the first dance and the start of the party, when everyone stops behaving quite so sensibly.

Where I photograph

Based in Lichfield, happy to travel

I’m based between Lichfield, Walsall and Sutton Coldfield, and photograph weddings all around the Midlands and the surrounding counties.

If you’re getting married further away, I’m still happy to come. There may be travel costs, and if there are, they’ll be clearly set out in your quote.
